14. Integrated Closet-to-Library Conversion (Clibrary)
What This Idea Means
Converting an unused reach-in closet or pantry into a mini library alcove (often called a “clibrary”) completely hides structural storage while freeing up outer room floor space.
How to Make It
- Remove Doors: Unhinge and remove existing closet doors to open up the frame.
- Backing Wall Accent: Paint or wallpaper the back inner wall of the closet with an eye-catching design.
- Install Custom Shelving: Fit horizontal shelves along the sides and back wall, leaving an opening in the center bottom for a fitted bench seat or small armchair.
Tips & Variations
- Retain Curtains: Hang lightweight linen curtains on a tension rod inside the frame to cover up the library when needed.
- Sconce Overhead: Install a hardwired or battery LED wall sconce overhead for focused reading light without cords.
