3. A Conversation with Your Shadow Self

The concept of the “shadow self”—the parts of our personality we hide, deny, or deem unacceptable—is deeply tied to the themes of Halloween. Instead of fearing your shadow, invite it to sit down for a cup of warm apple cider. In your journal, write a dialogue between your conscious self and your shadow. Ask your shadow what it is trying to protect you from, why it reacts with anger or fear in certain situations, and what it needs to feel safe. By giving your shadow a voice on the page, you strip away its monstrous qualities and realize that your deepest fears and insecurities are simply parts of you that need love, understanding, and integration.
