13. Reclaimed Wooden Horseshoe Bookends
Keep your collection of western literature, cowboy poetry, and history books upright using structural bookends built from heavy timber and vintage horseshoes.
- How to Make It: Cut two thick, heavy blocks of scrap lumber into L-shape configurations or heavy square blocks. Sand the wood smooth and apply a dark Danish oil finish. Weld or heavy-glue two cleaned iron horseshoes so they stand upright perpendicular to the wood base, with the curved bottom flush against the bottom surface and the open heels facing outward. Secure the metal structures into recessed slots cut into the wood blocks.
- Tips & Variations: Stick heavy-duty felt pads to the bottom of each bookend to prevent scratching your wooden shelves or tabletops.
