8. Handcrafted Raw Hide and Twine Lampshades
Lighting fixtures casting patterned shadows can completely redefine a room’s ambiance. Upcycling basic wire-frame lampshades with natural rawhide texture or tightly wound twine yields incredible texture.
- How to Make It: Remove old fabric from an unwanted wire drum lampshade frame. Take long strands of thick jute twine or strips of thin, flexible faux-rawhide material. Beginning at the top ring, secure the end with hot glue and wrap the material continuously down and around the frame structure, pushing rows tightly together to eliminate gaps. Finish by securing the final tail neatly inside the bottom rim.
- Tips & Variations: Weave colorful Southwestern patterned ribbon or leather strips horizontally at regular intervals to introduce contrasting color lines.
