9. Custom Stenciled Ranch Name Wood Sign
A classic homestead tradition involves proudly displaying family lineage or a custom ranch name on a hand-carved wooden plaque near the entryway or above the fireplace.
- How to Make It: Select a thick slab of pine or cedar featuring live edges and prominent wood grain. Sand the face smooth while leaving the bark edges intact. Apply a custom vinyl stencil featuring your family surname or established ranch date. Paint over the stencil using charcoal black or antique white acrylic craft paint. Once tacky, peel the stencil and distress the dried paint thoroughly with sandpaper.
- Tips & Variations: Drive decorative iron clavos (decorative upholstery nails) into the four corners of the wood slab to mimic structural hardware plates.
