13. The Alien Crash Landing Site
For a sci-fi twist on traditional Halloween decor, turn your front yard into a highly classified government quarantine zone surrounding an alien crash landing. Construct a semi-buried UFO or flying saucer using two large plastic kiddie pools joined rim-to-rim, painted metallic silver, and detailed with glowing neon green LED strip lights around the seam. Dig up a small patch of grass or pile dark mulch around the craft to simulate a violent impact crater, complete with scattered “space debris.”
Set up yellow “CAUTION: BIOHAZARD” or “RESTRICTED AREA” tape around the perimeter of your yard. Place life-sized alien figures with large black eyes and glowing green skin near the craft, or have them emerging from the bushes. To add to the realism, dress a couple of mannequins in white hazmat suits and gas masks, positioning them as government scientists analyzing the site with futuristic-looking scanners. Use bright, pulsing strobe lights, green lasers, and a smoke machine inside the UFO to make it look as though the engine is still hot and active.
