8. The Zombie Horde Breakout
Recreate the tension of a classic post-apocalyptic thriller with a zombie horde breakout scene right in your front yard. This setup relies on creating the illusion that the undead are actively clawing their way out of the earth. Purchase or craft several pairs of zombie arms and hands made of latex or plastic, and mount them on stakes driven into the turf. Position them so they appear to be reaching upward, grasping for the ankles of unsuspecting passersby. Pile freshly turned, dark potting soil around the base of each arm to look like freshly disturbed graves.
To enhance the narrative, build a dilapidated wooden barricade across your front porch or windows using lightweight faux wood planks. Paint the words “DONT OPEN, DEAD INSIDE” in messy, dripping red paint across the boards. Place a couple of full-sized zombie figures dressed in shredded, mud-stained clothing leaning against the barricade or dragging themselves across the lawn. Use low-angle, flickering amber and red spotlights to mimic the chaotic glow of a city under siege, and play a loop of low, guttural groans and scratching sounds from a hidden outdoor speaker.
