7. The Giant Spider’s Lair

Tap into one of humanity’s most common fears by transforming your entire front yard and home exterior into a massive, web-covered giant spider’s lair. Start by weaving an enormous web that stretches from your roofline down to the lawn. You can purchase heavy-duty, thick white rope webs or create your own using white yarn or elastic cord. Secure the web firmly to your gutters, porch railings, and stakes driven into the grass. Inside this web, place a colossal, eight-foot-long fuzzy black spider with glowing red eyes and poseable wire legs wrapped around your porch column or clinging to the side of your house.
To make the scene truly horrifying, scatter smaller, realistic plastic spiders across the lawn, porch steps, and windowsills, suggesting a recent hatching. Create “spider egg sacs” by wrapping white balloons or plastic skulls in layers of white batting and spiderwebbing, then hang them from your porch ceiling or tree branches. Dribble some artificial green slime or webbing on the lawn, and use bright green or purple spotlights to illuminate the giant web from below, casting giant, multi-legged shadows that will terrify anyone approaching your door.
